South America is the southern continent of the Americas, situated entirely in the Western Hemisphere and mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, with a relatively small portion in the Northern Hemisphere. It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean; North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest. South America was named in 1507 by cartographers Martin Waldseemüller and Matthias Ringmann after Amerigo Vespucci, who was the first European to suggest that the Americas were not the East Indies, but a New World unknown to Europeans. South America has an area of 17,840,000 square kilometers (6,890,000 sq mi), or almost 3.5% of the Earth's surface. As of 2005, its population was estimated at more than 371,090,000. South America ranks fourth in area (after Asia, Africa, and North America) and fifth in population (after Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America). From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Does anyone know anything about getting jobs in South America? Q. I just spent 4 months in Spain, learning the basics of the Spanish language. I would like to continue learning, but feel that I need to live in a spanish speaking environment in order to do so most effectively. Ideally, I would like to live somewhere in South America, being that it is easier to travel to and from NYC. If you have any information about realistic jobs in South America, I would appreciate the information. Thanks! Asked by Stephanie C - Mon Nov 3 18:39:44 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Why not go to East LA? Or Miami? Or NYC Or Houston? Or Dallas? Plenty of opportunity to hear and learn Spanish there. Also MOST countries require a work permit. You can work "off the grid", but most countries, w'/o their natl. ID card wont let you rent a house.. or open a bank account. Id go teach English to private students. Take out an Ad in the paper. Get a local cell phone. Youll be all set. Only accept CASH payments. Answered by Obama is a socialist - Mon Nov 3 23:32:05 2008 How can I become an air traffic controller in South America? Q. Asked by imhlong - Tue May 5 16:46:26 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. The most awe inspiring country is Chile. Land of contrast. The rain forests are cool but it gets old REAL quick when you're camping in the rain and mud, and the sun don't come out for days and when it does you can't enjoy it 'cause the trees block out all the rays. And it's fulla creepy crawly things. Most people who desire to go to a rain forest in S. America would hate it after only 2 days. Chile, on the other hand has much diversity. The wettest and driest two points on the planet are less than 100 miles apart. 20,000ft mountains (the Andes) are within sight while standing at sea level on the beach. The climate is much like California in the northern region. The extreme south is like Alaska.
