Caracas (Spanish pronunciation: [kaˈɾakas]), officially Santiago de León de Caracas, is the capital and largest city of Venezuela. It is located in the northern part of the country, following the contours of the narrow Caracas Valley on the Venezuelan coastal mountain range (Cordillera de la Costa). The valley's temperatures are springlike. Terrain suitable for building lies between 760 and 910 m (2,493.44 and 2,985.56 ft) above sea level. The valley is close to the Caribbean Sea, separated from the coast by a steep 2200 m (7400 ft) high mountain range, Cerro Ávila; to the south there are more hills and mountains. El Distrito Metropolitano de Caracas (Metropolitan District of Caracas) includes the Distrito Capital (the capital city proper) and four other municipalities in Miranda State including Chacao, Baruta, Sucre, and El Hatillo. The airport is just find and I had no problems. Everyone speaks fluent, very good English, which you obviously do as well. They say the airport there can be a little dangerous, but I did not see that at all and had NO problems. I guess just be cautious like you would be at any large airport. Do not leave you stuff unattended and do not fall asleep. Have a blast in Havana, its one of the best places I have ever been!! If you can, take a day trip to Varadero, its amazingly beautiful. When I went there w my church a couple of yrs ago we flew American & connected through Miami. As far as I know, there aren't any direct flights from LAX there. I think most either connect in Houston, Atlanta or Miami. If you're under 26 or a student or a teacher, check STA for fares. They often have super discounted fares.
