How is it that in Calif, a woman pleading guilty to murder 1 is eligible for life in prison at worst?
Q. This case involved a woman who sexually assaulted and murdered an 8 y.o. girl. California is a death penalty state and I thought that ppl guilty of first degree murder would be eligible for the death sentence.

A. This was a plea agreement. Likely the prosecutor took the death penalty off the table in exchange for they guilty plea. Happens all the time. A sure thing in a guilty plea trumps the unknown of a jury trial any day.

Does the murder of little Sandra Cantu affect the way you trust others around your children?
Q. I don't know if I could ever leave my children alone after hearing about this... I'm horrified! This Murderer, Melissa Huckaby, was the girl's Sunday school teacher. Pure evil. Who would have seen that coming though? Huckaby is the granddaughter of the Pastor, well spoken, intelligent... I'm quite shocked. Not to mention Huckaby is a mother herself!

A. It's a sad situation, but this sort of thing happens all the time. The Cantu family are lucky that 1. They got major media attention, which seldom happens, especially for children of color, and 2. That they (supposedly) have the culprit that murdered their child. Yes it was totally surprising that it was a woman, but it is sickening nonetheless. It's just sad - the child didn't deserve to lose her young life. She was in the second grade. It's incredibly sad.

A. i would not say "i'm sure" b/c i wasnt there but she has said so many lies and, why would she. shes been accused of theft and possibly has drugged a child before (i'm thinking for child molestation). so i certainly am leaning to the guilty side yet i am suspicious that there are more involved...i am suspicious that there is a group of child molesters involved and may God see to it that they all be brought to justice.

Is the FBI looking at Melissa Huckaby for involvement in child porn ring?
Q. I have heard that the FBI is in Idaho and other states investigating extended family members of Melissa's grandfather (Pastor Lawless) in the allegation that their churches are involved in some sort of child pornography ring. I was just wondering if anyone knows any truth to these allegations or if people just need something to talk about... This whole story saddens me deeply. I cannot see how anybody could hurt a child, let alone in such a way as to rape and murder. Let these "messengers of god" face their maker, justice will be served! I just hope they catch all involved before someone else is injured

A. God, I hope there is no such ring, but nothing would surprise me.

What are your views on the Sandra Cantu story?
Q. The little 8-year-old girl who was raped and murdered by the Sunday school teacher? I believe that Melissa Huckaby deserves the death penalty.

A. That terrible Huckaby deserves to die a long and painful death. What type of sick-minded mother would kill another's child? Just for attention? not acceptable!!! She should be tortured. But as we know is illegal. She should be kidnapped before her next hearing, then some hero should torture her. Just stab her with sharp knifes and make her feel the pain Sandra Cantu felt.

Do You Believe A 28 Year Old Woman Raped & Killed an 8 Year Old Girl OR Is She Covering Up For A Man?
Q. TRACY, Calif. Callers have inundated the phone lines of Tracy police, saying it can't be. Veteran homicide and sex-crime researchers say they cannot recall a case quite like it. Even the investigators themselves looked at the evidence and initially said "no way." A woman was accused not only of killing someone else's child, but of raping her Law enforcement officials and other experts say the allegations against Melissa Huckaby in the slaying of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu are remarkably rare over decades of U.S. police work. Huckaby was charged Tuesday with murdering her daughter's playmate, with the added special circumstances of rape with a foreign object, lewd or lascivious conduct with a child under 14 and murder in the course of a… [cont.]

A. I am waiting to hear the evidence the authorities have against Huckaby. As a mother, it's hard to think another mother could do this, especially to a child she knew. I'm not saying it's impossible, just hard to swallow. I think it's very possible that someone else was involved. Is she covering up for a man? Who knows. Statistically, men primarily commit these types of crimes. But that does not mean a women isn't capable of committing the same crime. Who knows if she acted alone or as/with an accomplice or if she has possibly committed similar crimes in the past and was just not caught. I hope the authorities are still investigating any other leads they might have. I pray justice will be served for Sandra and her family.

this world is such an ugly place to live?
Q. recently i have been feeling a little depressed about the state of society. from little chavy kids skipping school and giving unwarranted verbal abuse to passers by...to the amount of murderers/ rapists etc in the news. last nite i watched a film called One Eight Seven i think it was called, about this innercity high school which was basically ruled by these gangs of kids who had guns and would shoot another guy for merely looking at them the wrong way! today i read about a woman Melissa Huckaby who was not only a sunday school teacher but a mum herself to a small child, who kidnapped, raped and murdered an 8yr old girl who had come to her house to play with her own child. what is the world coming to?!?!?! and now tonight, theres a… [cont.]

A. You are right there are good people out there as well as not so good and there are some damn right evil *** s too The biggest problem is that bad news sells and all you ever hear day in day out is depressing stories Why is the news so biased to such negative news There is a lot of good that goes on in the world and probably at the end of your street but youll probably never get to hear about it I purposely do not buy newspapers now or watch TV and only reveiw the news occasionally on line I find that you need to judge your world on not what the media want to tell you but on your own personal experiences and then made a decision
